Come da titolo che driver devo installare per la GTX 970? Lo prendo dal sito del produttore o è in AUR?

Ho la GTX 970 e quella integrata nel processore, ma viene usata quella della 970 dato che il cavo che va al monitor è lì...

Nel senso che cinnamon parte in accellerazione hardware...

Prova a reinstallare.
Se mai guarda se non hai altri driver (tipo nouveau) installati nel sistema, che potrebbero confondere xorg se li carica automaticamente.

Hai generato il file di configurazione con nvidia-xconfig ?
Nel tuo sistema esiste un file /etc/X11/xorg.conf
